Not everyone needs an SR-22, but when you do, McCormick Insurance does more than just offer to file it. We provide answers to the questions you have about them. Select a question below for additional information.

What is an SR-22?

An SR-22, sometimes referred to as a Financial Responsibility Form, demonstrates proof of liability insurance. In other words, it is evidence a driver has an active insurance policy, thus the ability to pay a future claim up to a state’s minimum required limit.

Why is an SR-22 needed?

In most cases an SR-22 is a requirement of the reinstatement process of a suspended, revoked or cancelled license.

How can an SR-22 be obtained?

An SR-22 may be available on an auto insurance policy. An agency might recommend a separate auto insurance policy specifically to satisfy an SR-22 requirement. A local independent agency can assist in either adding the SR-22 filing to an existing auto insurance policy or starting a policy that includes an SR-22 filing.

How does an SR-22 compare to an identification card?

An insurance identification card is provided so that an insured may provide coverage information when needed. The card may be used in the event of an accident or traffic stop. An SR-22 is actually a form filing, separate from the auto insurance policy, sent by the issuing insurance company to the Department of Motor Vehicles or Bureau of Motor Vehicles. It serves as evidence that the driver has an active auto insurance policy in force.

For what period of time is an SR-22 required?

This can vary by state and circumstance. For example, an SR-22 may be required for a time period of three consecutive years.

What if the SR-22 customer doesn’t own a car?

Whether or not the customer owns a car, they must carry an SR-22 if deemed by the state. You can get a plicy called a “non-owners” policy.

What if the customer misses a payment?

Should an auto insurance policy not be paid to date, the policy will cancel, meaning there is no longer active coverage in the case of an accident. When the policy has an SR-22, the issuing insurance company is required to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles/Bureau of Motor Vehicles that the policy has cancelled. This notification is called an SR-26 filing.

What if an SR-22 is needed for another state?

An SR-22 must be maintained in the state it was mandated, even if the customer does not reside in that state. If these states are different, the local independent agency needs to utilize an auto insurance company that can issue an SR-22 in the required state.

Feel free to call McCormick Insurance today for more information about your San Diego, California SR22 filing requirements and auto insurance solutions.

There are a number of factors that can affect the cost of your auto insurance; some that are in your control and some that are not. The industry of course has certain standards and regulations that set basic pricing, but what about those “personal” factors that you can actually do something about? It helps to know exactly what they are. There’s no way that you can change what’s already happened in the past, but you can do something about your future. Follow the suggestions in this article and you’ll eventually start to see your rates come down.

Your driving record or profile is the number one factor considered when setting your San Diego auto insurance rates. If you have a history of traffic accidents, moving violations, and perhaps a DUI or two, your rates are going to be high. If you drive the speed limit, think defensively while on the road, and follow all traffic laws, you’ll have low insurance rates. In other words, you pay the price for your actions while you’re behind the wheel. If you don’t want high car insurance rates, don’t do dumb things while you’re driving.

The car you drive is part of the equation when calculating auto insurance rates also. Insurance rates are based on sticker price, so the more expensive the car; the higher the price of your car insurance. Think about that the next time you’re contemplating the Lexus over the Toyota Camry. Both cars offer basically the same features and are manufactured by the same auto make. The difference between the two is brand name and sticker price. Are you willing to pay extra for the status symbol? If so, by all means buy the Lexus. If you want to save money on your auto insurance, you might want to consider the Camry instead.

How high is your credit score? Yes, that is a factor in setting the price on your commercial auto insurance too. A low credit score will lead to all kinds of additional expenses on an automobile. The finance costs will be higher, insurance will be more expensive, and you’ll most likely have to pay cash for any repairs because those with low credit scores may not be eligible for credit or credit cards. Word of advice: buy a used car, pay cash for it, and build your credit score by paying off some of that old debt and getting bill payments out on time.

The final two factors are your age and occupation. You can’t change the former, so if you’re young and paying high car insurance rates you’ll just have to age out to get past those. If your job affects your rates you might want to do the math on what you take home and how much extra its costing you in auto insurance to make that money. You may find it’s not worth it or you may find that it is. If you’re taking a loss, change jobs and move to a different neighborhood. That will make your insurance rates go down also. Call Wayne McCormick for a quote today at (619) 276-0492.

Are you traveling this Thanksgiving? You might want to take a few minutes before you go to review your insurance policies and potential needs. You’re going to be away for a while. Do you have homeowners insurance? You’re going to be driving, either your own car or a rental. Do you have the proper auto insurance coverage? Contact the car rental insurance agency in advance if you’re flying to another city or state. Their requirements may be different from those of your local car rental office.

There are four insurable entities you need to look at when you travel, either during the holidays or at any other time of year. They are your person, your home, your automobile, and your family. Are you covered for anything that might arise while you’re gallivanting around the country? Here at McCormick Insurance Solutions, we don’t sell health insurance, but we recommend you check yours before you embark on your voyage. The coverage you have here in San Diego may not be good elsewhere, especially if your trip is international.

We do sell life insurance. Morbid as it may sound, if you should meet with an untimely demise while traveling, will your family be compensated for your loss? Funerals are expensive, you know. Transporting you from the site of whatever accident or mishap has befallen you will add to that expense. You don’t want to leave your family holding the bag, do you? Be sure to see one of our agents about a term or whole life insurance policy before you board the plane.

Are you going to Mexico? Insurance works a little differently down there. Your San Diego auto insurance policy may not cover you for collisions or accidental damage. How much cash are you going to be traveling with? You don’t want to have to use it all for car repairs or to pay off the local magistrate. Invest in some Mexico insurance from McCormick Insurance Solutions and avoid the unnecessary expenses that many tourists incur when they don’t do their homework.

Most people like to travel. It’s one of the pleasures in life that we work for. A trip to a warmer and friendlier place, some skiing at Tahoe, a cross-country flight to New York or New England, all are fun and exciting ways to spend your vacation and holiday time. You’ll enjoy those trips more if you have the peace of mind that comes from being properly insured. Do you need an insurance evaluation? We’re happy to provide one for you. Come see us this week so you can travel with no worries next week. You can call too. Our number is 619-276-0492.

Married couples, single professionals, children, newborns, stay-at-home moms, retirees, small business owners, and parents of grown children can benefit from life insurance coverage. You may be physically fit right now and feeling well however no one is sure what can happen next.

It is important to be practically prepared when your time comes. A cash distribution called a death benefit can be given to your beneficiaries when you include this in your life insurance policy. This can help eliminate any financial worries that your family have as well as help them pay for any unforeseen expenses that may occur. You may think that your pension plan, stocks, and savings will cover all those expenses, but you’d be surprised at how quickly a family can get wiped out in the event of a tragedy. Funeral expenses alone can clean out a bank account pretty quickly.

Life insurance covers your medical bills, debts, taxes, attorney fees, funeral costs, among others. Generally, the insurance proceeds are exempt from income tax. Moreover, with the right planning, your survivors are guarded against having to pay estate taxes. These taxes can sometimes escalate up to 45% of the total value of your estate. You can purchase term insurance if you want to have a payout in the event of your death. This type of coverage is characterized by “what you give is what you get”. Term insurance coverage is intended exclusively as a death benefit.

If you want to have lump sum cash payment, it is important to make regular payments for permanent life coverage and withdraw it when your policy matures. If you decide to do so, you can borrow from your policy as well.Should you choose to have a higher death benefit, you should opt for whole life insurance. You can be assured of a cash benefit in the event of your death as long as you pay the regular annual premiums. On the other hand, universal life insurance is more flexible than whole life coverage because you will be entitled to a higher cash value.

The best time to prepare for the future of your loved ones is right now. Providing care for your chosen beneficiaries is the right thing to do to protect their future. Long after you have gone, you can leave behind a stable legacy. You want your children and your children’s children to remember you fondly and your spouse or life partner to have all of their needs taken care of. How do you do that? You can start by calling McCormick Insurance Solutions and asking us more questions about life insurance. Our number is 619-276-0492.

We travel along through our day-to-day routine and encounter various obstacles that we strive to overcome. Sometimes the ride is smooth and at other times it gets a little bumpy. Occasionally we’re faced with life changing situations that require some outside assistance, like car accidents or a sudden loss of a loved one. Are you prepared for these events? Can you get through them intact – personally and financially? These are questions that need to be asked.

McCormick Insurance Solutions is so much more than a simple insurance provider. Sure, we offer life insurance to our customers, but we view it as providing peace of mind for when folks need to overcome one of life’s obstacles. Death and taxes are inevitable. We can’t help you with the latter, but we can certainly offer you at least some solace with the former. It won’t replace that lost loved one, but it will pay the bills during a time of need. Where else can you find that?

Homeowners Insurance is an Investment, not an Expense

Most of our customers come to our office for the first time viewing homeowners insurance as an expense. It’s not. Home insurance for a San Diego homeowner is part of the investment that you’re making in your real estate holding, whatever that holding may be. A single-family home, condo, or apartment building will experience a number of problems during the course of a twenty or thirty year ownership. Are you prepared to cover the expenses that go along with those? If you don’t have homeowners insurance, those expenses come out of pocket.

The same can be said about auto insurance. The value of a car goes down over time, unlike a house, which usually (one hopes) goes up, but a motor vehicle is still an investment. The return on that investment is measured in usage, not cash value, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable to you. Protecting it with an auto insurance policy from McCormick Insurance will extend the usage time, thus providing you a higher return on your investment. Looking at the monthly bill as a piece of that investment will make it less of a burden to pay.

Life, home, and auto insurance are not expenses. They’re investments in your future and guarantees to a higher serenity level. Those who don’t have these policies in place tend to stress more about life’s “potential” problems and spend less time dealing with the actual ones. Those who have insurance spend their time and energy focusing on overcoming real obstacles not imagined ones. Which type of person would you like to be? Call McCormick Insurance Solutions at 619-276-0492 and tell us. We’ll be happy to get you going on the right track.

Looking to take a trip up the coast for the holiday season? This time of year is a great time for driving because all of the summer traffic is off the roads and the kids are back in school. Empty nesters are flying free and recent college graduates are traveling the world. Have you checked your auto insurance policy to make sure you’re covered if you drive over the border? Mexico has a whole different set of rules, you know.

Packing up and venturing down the empty highways, alone or in the company of a loved one, is an ambitious, exciting, and somewhat dangerous undertaking. You’ll want to make sure you take some precautions, beginning with a full vehicle check-up to make sure your car is going to make it through the trip. In our years as a San Diego auto insurance company we’ve seen dozens of incidents where a little preventative care could have saved a lot of headaches.

Don’t pick up any hitchhikers, no matter how cute or harmless they appear to be. In fact, if you see a hitchhiker, contact highway patrol and have the police do a check on them. They could need assistance or they could be up to no good. You just never know. On an empty road, you are most vulnerable when you’re pulled over. Don’t fall into that trap. You’ll also not want to end up hitchhiking yourself, so be sure to stop at the gas station before you run out of gas.

Keep a case of bottled water in your car and a cooler with some food in it. It’s best to have some snacks that don’t go bad, like nuts or chips, but bringing along fresh fruit can do wonders for you too, provided you eat it before it goes bad. Stay hydrated on those long trips and make sure you eat healthy. It’s very easy to get into that fast food rut where you’re living off drive-thru food. It only takes a few minutes to stop at the supermarket, and it’s a lot cheaper.

Bring plenty of warm clothes. Don’t rely on the car heater to keep you warm. You’ll waste gas and possibly burn out coils and gaskets. Your auto insurance policy won’t cover those repairs, even if you’re still in the San Diego city limits. If you’re out in the desert you’ll find that those seventy five degree days we’re enjoying quickly turn into frigid nights, great for seeing the stars but pretty uncomfortable if you’re not dressed properly.

These are just a few tips from your San Diego auto insurance provider to help you have a wonderful and safe trip this fall. If you have additional questions about travel coverage or would like to purchase a Mexico insurance policy, please contact McCormick Insurance Solutions today at (619) 276-0492.

It’s actually a list of causes for the top holiday fire hazards in San Diego, potential disasters that could result in a claim on your home insurance policy. Think of it again as pumpkins on fire, turkeys boiling in oil, and electric lights strung across flammable wood or plastic. That may not seem to be in the holiday spirit, but doing some homework now to prevent accidents will keep your little monsters, young pilgrims, and Santa’s helpers safer this year. It’s the end of September. Are you prepared for the holiday season?

Halloween arrives first. Jack-o-Lanterns are generally safe if you leave thick walls in place where you don’t have any holes. Some carvers choose to peel away more of the insides to create a shading effect. Be careful that you don’t go too far. A thin-walled pumpkin left unattended with a burning candle inside could easily cause a fire, especially if it’s on a flammable surface or outside in the wind. Be sure to only place a Jack-o-Lantern where you can see it and don’t let it burn too long. Using battery operated lighting, though non-traditional, is a safer option if you have small children.

Thanksgiving Dinner and Yuletide Traditions

By now all of you have seen the insurance commercial about the deep fried turkey. Two million people deep fry turkeys every year. Fifteen burned their houses down last year. If you’re a San Diego homeowner in that situation, it will be nice to have home insurance to cover your losses, unless you’re found negligent or don’t have the proper coverage. Contact us here at McCormick Insurance Solutions and schedule an evaluation. Our number is 619-276-0492. Please don’t ask us how to cook the turkey though. Our specialty is insurance.

Finally, and this should be no surprise to anyone, many of the homeowners insurance claims we see around the holidays are related to problems around the Christmas tree. What is surprising is that very few of these incidents are the result of the tree catching on fire, and when it does it’s usually an artificial tree, not a real one. Douglas firs and Utah spruce trees don’t burn easily. What we do see is problems with too many plugs in one outlet and fires from exposed wires going to power strips. Please replace your extension cords and surge protectors.

The holidays should be enjoyed. Have fun carving pumpkins with your children, savor the taste of that deep-fried turkey, and spend some time with family decorating the Christmas tree. These are all time-honored traditions that at most times are safe and happy occasions for everyone. Sadly, sometimes these events end in tragedy, and usually that tragedy can be prevented. Be smart this year, practice safety first, and call us to have your homeowners insurance checked for coverage and liability. Our phone number once again is 619-276-0492.

The third quarter for 2012 comes to a close at the end of this month. Is your San Diego life insurance policy building cash value? If not, maybe it’s time to look at purchasing a different life insurance policy. Term life is the most affordable option, but it doesn’t build cash value. Whole or universal life insurance policies increase in value every year, the type of policies you can include as part of your investment portfolio. Call us any time here at McCormick Insurance Solutions to learn more. Our number is 619-276-0492.

Insurance is one of life’s basic needs. If you drive a car, you need a San Diego auto insurance policy. If you own a home, it’s a good idea to have a San Diego home insurance policy to protect your investment. Life insurance protects you also, in the event of a tragedy, but it can also be a vehicle for savings. Life insurance is the only type of policy we offer that can actually earn you money over time, making it a true investment and not an expense. Have you thought about it that way before?

San Diego life insurance that builds cash value is an asset. Banks and other lending institutions will normally accept it as collateral since it has a liquidation value. In other words, you can borrow against it. You can also, in certain circumstances, withdraw from it before term, an option usually exercised during times of financial hardship such as job loss or impending foreclosure. The cash value of your life insurance policy can be counted on to bail you out in these situations.

Ask for an Insurance Policy Evaluation from McCormick

Your San Diego life insurance isn’t the only policy that may need an upgrade. Ask for an insurance policy evaluation from McCormick Insurance Solutions to make sure that your policies are all up to date and the best option for you. Are you paying too much for auto insurance? Does your homeowners insurance include flood and fire damage clauses? You don’t want to find out too late that you’re not covered. After disaster strikes you have no recourse. If insurance doesn’t cover it, you’re paying out of pocket, a sad and easily preventable situation.

Contact us here at McCormick Insurance today. Our number is 619-276-0492. We offer life, auto, home, wedding, and vacation insurance. Are you planning a trip to Mexico soon? You’ll want to check in with us first. The insurance requirements south of the border are different than they are up here. Your auto insurance will not cover you if you get in an accident. Come see us and we’ll make sure you have the right coverage so you can enjoy your vacation. We’ll also set you up with a life insurance policy that will build cash value, a nice security blanket as you move towards middle age and your golden years.
