Market value is what you can sell your home for, and replacement cost is the amount it would take to rebuild your home.
  3. Do you have a good idea of the value of your personal property? It is very important that you create an inventory of all your personal property and determine its replacement cost. A standard home insurance policy covers your clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, computers, appliances, and other personal items, but the amount of coverage will depend on how much your home’s structure is insured for.
  4. How much liability coverage do you need? This is particularly important, especially if you own a home or have other investments. Having more than $1,000,000 in liability coverage can protect your personal assists in the event of a large claim against you or tour family. Make sure you ask for all the discounts if your agent has not already. If you are at least 55 years old and retired, for instance, you may qualify for a discount of up to 10 percent at some companies.
